Education
Is
Trash

Education is Trash examines the impact and imagery of waste produced by the academic industry, specifically one students journey through the post-secondary education system. This journey is documented through stylized photographs of trash produced during their time in a post-secondary education program. Education is Trash’s goal is to raise awareness about the waste produced through the academic system weather that be directly or as a by-product.

Environmentally friendly, sustainable, eco-friendly. These are all terms commonly heard in a classroom in 2021. Typically, students are taught that we, as a human race, need to focus our efforts on preserving our current world to sustain a livable environment for the long term. Particularly through reduction of waste and the use of renewable resources vs. unrenewable resources. What the educational system fails to realize is that they themselves are creating hundreds of pounds of waste every single day. Have they heard of the saying practice what you preach?
